Our Favourite Social Media Accounts From Big Brands

This is going to be a post that I try to out out more often, the idea here is that I share some of my favourite brands from around the web that are doing some pretty unique things with their social media. It’s not going to be a long post, in fact, it’s more of a way to bookmark some of the stuff that is inspiring me to push the envelope when it comes to creating powerful social media for my clients. Here we go:

  1. Netflix

Netflix knows exactly the type of person that they want to attract. They’ve got all the data they need on their perfect customer so targeting ads or content to those groups is easy for them. They use video so effectively on facebook and twitter but where they really shine is on youtube. They know exactly how to promote and share their upcoming content

2. GoPro

GoPro’s social media strategy is all about letting users share their content.. They make it simple for anyone to submit content, both video and and photos and they use they out-reach to share that content. It’s a win-win for both sides. The creator gets they’re content and name out to the world and GoPro get to show everyone exactly what their product looks like without having to create the content themselves.

3. Dove

Dove has made their mandate pretty clear, it even features on their social media bios. “Dove is committed to helping women realize their beauty potential by creating products that deliver real care.” Dove is constantly creating content aimed at making women truly feel good about themselves and their bodies. This isn’t an easy feat in an industry that is so competitive. Take a look at their recent twitter images content:

Why Video Is So Powerful For Social Media

Social Media is a busy place, it’s like going to a mall except almost every brand and store is trying to get your to come inside and look at their products or service. Oh, and did I mentioned more than half the world’s population is inside the mall with you. So, yeah, it’s a crowded place to say the least.

Now, from a businesses point of view, you’ve picked one hell of a mall to open up shop. There are people walking past your store 24/7, it’s madness! However, we also forgot to mention that in the mall, pretty much right next to you are all your competitors, yes even that crap store that you thought would never have a chance.

So, now the real question is. How Do You Stand Out? Well, that’s the one thing you and Pepsi have in common. Well, sharing a status update is easy, in fact everyone can do it. Take a picture is also pretty simple. Taking a professional picture that is appealing gets a bit more challenge. Creating a video targeted to your audience is tough but therein lies the whole point of this article. Doing the things that your competitors aren’t is the best way to stand out.

Yes, we know, you make jewelry for a living, now you’re suppose to go and be Michael Bay? Well, no, but there are a number of way to still create effective video with that will stay within your budget. First, you most likely have one of the most powerful cameras in your pocket. Your smart phone can take unbelievably good video and with a couple tweaks you’ll be on your way.

Not interested in doing it yourself, well, you can always hire outside help to get the job done. I’ve worked with a number of video creators over the past few years. Hop onto your local search engine and look around for a good pick. I simply searched “video production san francisco”  and got connected with a great company that’s close to me in the Bay Area. Just a word of advice, make sure you check out examples of their work and don’t forget to see their social media platforms. You want to partner with someone who understands the value of social media.

Another great way is to make a video slideshow from your photos. Check out https://www.kizoa.com/Video-Editor. Throw some music in there and add your text and boom, you’re way ahead of Bob’s Charms from down the road who’s still advertising in the local newspaper. Pffft. Get it together Bob!!

Hopefully, this has a started to generate some ideas and ways your can start effectively using video to stand out.

How Businesses Should Be Using Social Media Effectively

For business owners, social media doesn’t always seem like a high priority when it comes to the success of your business. In fact, many people see social media as only a place for younger people to share their opinions and party photos. With platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest being used by billions of people daily, the importance of using social media in your business should become a bit more obvious. Understanding when and where the right times to use social media can be so effective when it comes to creating your online presence.

If your business sells products that are easily captured (and most importantly shared) through photos or video, then social media can be a very powerful tool to for your to help promote your businesses or services. And here’s how your social media can really take off, not only are you sharing your pictures of, say, your pretty office supplies. Involving people to participate by taking pictures of themselves using your product is also a great way to build even more brand awareness. In many cases, potential customers will trust their friend’s photo of your products more than yours and could turn that curiosity into business for you.

Here’s an exercise for you to try. If you own a business, take a look at some of the bigger brands in your industry and see how people interact with their social media accounts. Are there things you can learn from how they communicate, share images and the type of language they use?

Another powerful benefit of social media is the ability to monitor one’s online reputation. We can also call this your social reputation. How do people see you online, are you being discussed, shared amongst groups of people, are you getting a number of good reviews. All these metrics are available for you to see and most importantly, change. By keeping in tune with customer feedback and even being opened minded to negative comments that are constructive, one can improve their business. Customers today like to see that there’s a real person behind the brand, they’re tired of the big corps like target, or pepsi selling to them all the time and want some human interaction.

This is obviously just a very basic introduction into world social media. However, if you are a business and you’re looking to learn more about social media and how you can effectively take part then please stay tuned for more articles.
